To improve women’s reproductive health, we aim to increase understanding of endometrial function leading to precision medicine based treatments for infertility, fertility regulation and related conditions. Using sequencing technology and bioinformatics I) RNAs identified in uterine fluid and embryo culture media will be validated for non-invasive assessment of endometrium and embryo quality. II) There is no curefor women with a dysfunctional thin endometrium (TE), incapable of supporting pregnancy. Newly identified endometrial cell populations and their niche factors may aid TE repair through their unique secretome and immunomodulation, offering potential cell therapy with implication for conditions such as endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding. III) Progesterone (P) is a key regulator of endometrial function, implantation and pregnancy. Our research on P receptor modulators (PRMs) has resulted in the innovation of medical abortion, and demonstrated the potential of PRM in contraception with added health benefits. We plan 5 large clinical trials including PRMs for contraception (by endometrial inhibition), improved morning-after-Pills and IV) simplified abortion protocols on very early abortion, self management by telemedicine, early detection and new treatment of ectopic pregnancy. The 5-year translational project utilizes a well-established infrastructure from bench-to-bed-to-the hands of women with an expected improved reproductive autonomy and health economic impact.
