Om mig
- Jag är professor i molekylär cell- och tumörbiologi vid Karolinska Institutet sedan 1999. Mitt huvudintresse som forskare är cancer och ny cancerbehandling. I mer än tre decennier har jag forskat om tumörsuppressorgenen TP53. Jag har varit koordinator för ett EU Integrated project (Mutp53) med 23 partners och en budget på 8 miljoner Euro 2004-2009, och varit redaktör för två böcker om p53 (Springer 2005 och 2012). Jag grundade företaget Aprea Therapeutics tillsammans med kollegor för att utveckla nya p53-baserade cancerläkemedel. De senaste åren har jag varit innehavare av ett ERC Advanced Grant.

Forskningsbeskrivning
- Min forskargrupp bedriver forskning om p53 och p53-medierad tumörsuppression, den p53-reglerade genen Zmat3 (Wig-1), och reaktivering av muterat p53 som ny cancerterapi. Vi har identifierat molekylen APR-246 som kan utlösa apoptos i tumörceller med muterad TP53 och hämma tumörtillväxt in vivo i möss. Molekylen påverkar även redoxbalansen i celler. APR-246 har testats i flera kliniska studier i patienter med MDS/AML. Vi undersöker om APR-246 kan användas för cancerprevention. Vi arbetar också med utveckling av nya strategier för farmakologisk induktion av translationell genomläsning för att reaktivera nonsense-muterad TP53 i tumörer.
