Forskningsbeskrivning
- Vi studerar signaltransduktionsmekanismerna involverade i neurodegenerativa och psykiatriska sjukdomar, som Parkinsons sjukdom, schizofreni och drogberoende. Vi är speciellt intresserade på av dopamintransmission, som är djupt påverkad vid dessa patologier.
Vårt slutmål är att identifiera molekylära ändringar som representerar nya måltavlor för terapeutiska behandlingar. Metodologin är baserad på en kombination av molekylärbiologiska, biokemiska och beteendestuderande tekniker. Med denna strategi har vi karakteriserat viktiga mekanismer involverade i effekterna av många psykoaktiva substanser, som koffein, morfin, cannabis och antipsykotiska läkemedel.
I andra studier, har vi identifierat ändringar i signaltransduktion kopplade till de svåra rörelserubbningar, s.k. dyskinesi, som drabbar Parkinsons patienter under behandling med levodopa. Slutligen studerar vi också de kognitiva och psykiatriska symptomer som ofta uppkommer vid Parkinsons sjukdom.
