It was lovely to see so many of you at our summer mingle at Biomedicum. It's truly special that we now have a strong KBH presence at Biomedicum.
This is a time for examinations and celebrations, a moment for conclusions and new visions. On this note, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our new GUA, Ewa Elvin, and our new director of doctoral studies , Kristiina Tammimies. I am looking forward to working together and achieving great things for KBH and our students, teachers and supervisors.
I am deeply grateful to Malin Holtzmann and Angelica Linden Hirschberg for their outstanding contributions to KBH. Additionally, a huge thanks to Klas Blomgren, who has served as Vice Head of Department and will now continue as Deputy Head of Department, taking over responsibility for Biomedicum.
At KI, the definition of roles for the Deans is taking shape, and a new budget model is being developed. I am also happy to welcome our new Theme Head of Women’s Health and Health Professions, at Karolinska University Hospital, Corinne Pedroletti. I look forward to a fruitful collaboration with KBH.
May has been amazing, and I do hope that you have managed to spend some time outdoors. Take the opportunity for a "Walk and Talk" meeting or simply a moment to enjoy fresh air and screen-free time or our mobile gym at W8. Thank you for your hard work, and congratulations on all your achievements. WE ARE KBH.
Wishing you a lovely Summer,
Kristina
Dear All at KBH,
Reflecting on the past week, I couldn't be prouder of our department's representation during the recent visit by the KI president and leadership. It was an opportunity for us to demonstrate the breadth of our activities, We Are KBH; excellence in education and research, and efficient and supportive administration. KI’s leadership wanted to learn from our work related to KI’s Priority activities for sustainable departments and a strong KI and KBH.
I extend my gratitude to each one of you who contributed to this successful meeting and to all of you at KBH for your contribution to our shared goals, in advancing the missions of KBH and KI. Our high activity is also evident in the surge of VR research applications this year. Fingers crossed for successful applications.
I'd also like to emphasize the importance of including KI as a contributing “huvudman” / collaborator in any ethical applications related to research at KI. Please refer to the provided information for more details on this matter. Read about research at KI here.
Looking ahead to April, I am excited about our upcoming meeting with all our researcher group leaders. It promises to be an enriching experience with inspirational lectures and engaging dialogues for networking opportunities. Kindly liaise with your group leaders regarding this event and possible input. Im looking forward to the conferment ceremony in the City Hall to celebrate our new doctoral students and their supervisors. Doctoral degree Conferment Ceremony | Staff Portal (ki.se)
As the winter fades away and spring is (almost) here, I find myself eagerly anticipating this spring more than ever before. With longer and lighter days, let's seize the opportunity to step outside and indulge in outdoor activities, even if it's just a leisurely walk amidst nature or across our campus.
I wish you all A Happy Easter and remind you of these words by Dag Hammarskjöld,
"The pursuit of peace and progress cannot end in a few years in either victory or defeat. The pursuit of peace and progress, with its trials and its errors, its successes and its setbacks, can never be relaxed and never abandoned." – Dag Hammarskjöld. From "Markings"

Our Vision: We conduct leading education and research with an impact on women’s and children’s health globally.
Dear All,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share some updates and initiatives that have been discussed during recent meetings with the research group leaders at KBH. The meetings with the research group/unit leaders have been truly inspiring, and I am impressed by the incredible activity and dedication displayed by each of you. Your commitment to excellence and collaboration is truly commendable.
As a follow-up to these engaging discussions, we have scheduled a joint meeting for all research group/unit leaders in April. This meeting not only aims to further strengthen collaboration but will also provide a wonderful opportunity for networking. I encourage all of you to participate actively and share your insights during this session.
With the commencement of the new academic year, it's heartening to witness the curiosity and energy among our new students. Their enthusiasm adds a vibrant dynamic to our academic community.
One of the key focus areas we have identified is the development of career plans for younger researchers and teachers, as well as nurturing our future academic leaders. To this end, the FAL course (KIs Future Academic Leaders) is set to conclude in February. We believe that investing in the growth and development of our academic staff will contribute significantly to the overall success of our department. Congrats in advance to our participants.
The management team is gearing up for a workshop to explore how KBH can contribute to KI's nine focus areas. Our objective is to align these areas with our vision for the department; We conduct leading education and research with an impact on women’s and children’s health globally.
I wish you good luck with ongoing research funding applications on top of everything else. Your engagement is vital, and I am confident that together we will achieve new heights of success that will benefit women and children and society.
Our new wetlab in Biomedicum is likely to contribute to this. Thank you to all who dedicated so much work to make the move so smooth.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to excellence.
