Our offer - ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility
The ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility is a research infrastructure located at KI Campus Flemingsberg. It is designed to meet the needs of preclinical and clinical researchers working with a wide range of infectious microorganisms.

The facility enables users to conduct experiments independently or with support from facility staff. We provide three separate, fully equipped culture rooms, one room equipped for cell sorting of infected material, and one room for shared equipment and chemicals. Five Class II microbiological safety cabinets (MSC-II) are available for work requiring biological containment.
The facility supports a wide range of research activities, including:
- Large-scale propagation and concentration of infectious microorganisms
- Antimicrobial screening
- Studies of pathogen–host interactions
- Tissue and in vitro cell culture work
We provide support and training throughout the research project, from experimental planning and risk assessment to the safe conduct of laboratory work.
Risk Group 3 pathogens
The ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility holds permits and registrations from the Swedish Work Environment Authority for the storage and handling of multiple infectious microorganisms. Additional notifications and permit applications can be prepared upon request, depending on the needs of the proposed project.
Instrumentation
The instrumentation available at the facility includes:
- Five Class II microbiological safety cabinets (MSC-II)
- Sony MA900 cell-sorter, supporting 12 fluorescence parameters and 4-way sorting.
- Tecan Spark multi-mode reader for microplates with ability to read absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, and Alpha screen technology.
- Ultracentrifuge
- Microscopes equipped with cameras
- Automated cell counter
- Automated pipetting system
Contact us to discuss a project
Please send a brief description of your project and requirements to bsl3-anafutura@ki.se and/or the Facility Manager, Annika Karlsson (annika.karlsson@ki.se).
We will contact you to arrange an initial meeting and discuss your research needs, the facility’s requirements, and how we can support your project.
