What happens to the work environment when AI becomes the boss?

That the use of AI is expanding across various areas of society has probably not escaped anyone’s notice. One of the fields where AI has been increasingly used in recent years is as a tool for managing, planning, and organizing work in the workplace. This means that AI is taking over tasks traditionally performed by a human manager, a phenomenon known as algorithmic management. Explore the latest research on how algorithmic management affects the work environment and health in our latest report (available only in Swedish).

Algorithmic Management: Experiences and Responses

Our recent report, Algorithmic management: Experiences and responses, presents results from a study set in Sweden on the ramifications of digital technologies and algorithmic management (AM) and how technology affects the prospects for workplace co-determination and democracy. It specifically looks at the effects of AM on work and workers’ rights in non-platform work (warehousing, retail and transport industries), workers’ response to AM-related issues, and the implications of these results for trade unions, solidarity, and policy.
