Abstract

Technological advances have progressively moved the bottleneck of personalized medicine from obtaining different types of patient data to understanding disease mechanisms and identifying actionable targets using the data. An important current research problem is estimating the functional significance of the observed variants, mostly in non-coding regions, so as to prioritize follow-up validation and investigative efforts. In this talk, a framework for functional significance evaluation based on integrative analysis of genomic and epigenomic data will be presented, with example applications of it on different human diseases including hepatocellular carcinoma.

Biography

Kevin Yip is an associate professor in Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He obtained his PhD in computer science from Yale University. His research is related to bioinformatics and computational biology, with main focuses on modeling gene regulatory mechanisms and their perturbations in human diseases.
