From AI Innovation to Clinical Practice: Data, Implementation and Lessons Learned
Welcome to participate in Health Informatics Conversations – a lunch seminar series arranged by the Health Informatics Centre.
As Director of the Centre for AI Innovation, Johanna Furuhjelm will provide a brief introduction to the Centre’s work and its role in supporting the full journey from AI research to implementation. The presentation will focus on how AI innovation can move from research into clinical practice, including the role of health data in access, sharing, testing, and validation.

Robert Svebeck from KI’s Center for AI Innovation presents a practical 12-point checklist covering resources, methodology, validation, statistical considerations, and generalisability. Relevant for anyone with a background in medical sciences who is writing, reviewing, or supporting research projects involving AI.

How humans and machines can work together for the benefit of healthcare
At a packed panel debate arranged by the KI Centre for AI Innovation, the matter of research funding and infrastructure evolved into a discussion on the use of AI, who has power over our health data and which human skills ought not to be ceded to machines. The conversation brought together perspectives from science, social science and science journalism.
National collaboration accelerating AI development in Sweden
Recently, several EU-funded Swedish AI initiatives came together to establish a more structured collaboration. Our shared ambition is clear: To amplify the impact of our work and strengthen support for researchers, public sector organisations, and companies that are developing and deploying AI solutions. KI is leading the Swedish node of one the initiatives, TEF-Health – the European Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics.
Nature Medicine highlights two of KI’s AI initiatives
In a recent article in Nature Medicine, two Karolinska Institutet initiatives are highlighted as key Nordic AI assets: KI’s Centre for AI Innovation and TEF-Health, the European Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics, whose Swedish node is hosted by KI.
New AI network to support KI staff and students
The rapid advancement of AI in medical research is increasing the need for coordination. Karolinska Institutet is therefore funding a cross-institutional AI network that brings together researchers, clinicians and experts, coordinates initiatives, and provides support for reliable and clinically relevant AI.
The network will kick off 2027, is led by KI’s Centre for AI Innovation (CAII) and connects existing expertise with the support needs identified in a recent needs analysis.
