Biominicum – a research lab for the public

World-leading research is carried out at Karolinska Institutet’s Biomedicum research building in Solna, covering everything from serious diseases to the smallest components of the human body. But on the ground floor of the newly built building there is also Biominicum, a research lab designed for children, teenagers and young adults.

Here, school classes from compulsory and upper secondary schools can meet researchers, try out simple laboratory equipment and learn the basics of medical research. The programme in the “Public Room” is adapted to the age group and planned in dialogue with the teacher in charge.

It is also possible to have a guided tour of parts of Karolinska Institutet’s campus in Solna and visit a small exhibition about the world-famous photographer Lennart Nilsson, who worked at Karolinska Institutet for many years. If you would like to combine the visit with other activities, the National Museum of Science and Technology’s branch in Hagastaden, The Cell, is not far from Biominicum.

Bookings must be made well in advance. Those of us who welcome school classes to Biominicum work day to day as researchers and university teachers.
