Multiple Sclerosis: from molecular mechanisms to disease-modifying treatments (June 2-5)

On June 2-5, 2025, KNIMS PIs proudly hosted The Nobel Symposium 2025  -  Multiple Sclerosis: from molecular mechanisms to disease-modifying treatments, a prestigious event gathering international leading experts to discuss developments in MS research, from immunological mechanisms to future treatments that can prevent the disease and repair damage to myelin. It comprised 3 days of closed sessions fostering exchange between worldwide recognized experts in MS followed by one day open to all KI staff and students with the valuable participation of people living with MS.

The Nobel Symposium was organized by Gonçalo Castelo-Branco, Maja Jagodic, Fredrik Piehl and Tomas Olsson and coordinated by Tony Jimenez-Beristain. It was funded by the Nobel Foundation with additional support from Neuroförbundet, MS Forskningsfonden, Journal of Internal Medicine, and Hjärnfonden.

  • Interview with Professor Fredrik Piehl and Professor Gonçalo Castelo-Branco

Short interview with Professor Fredrik Piehl (CMM) and Professor Goncalo Castelo-Branco (MBB) regarding the role of single-cell technologies in the current understanding of the human genome in both health and disease with the purpose of eventually applying this knowledge to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, and contribute to a better understanding of the key role of myelin in the hallmark events of demyelination and remyelination. Interview moderator Dr Chiara Starvaggi Cucuzza (CMM).

  • KNIMS retreat 2023 (Feb 20-21)

This 2-day overnight event held at a conference venue within the Stockholm municipality, provides a great opportunity for networking and for junior and senior researchers to present and discuss the impact of their research findings.
