  • My research focus is to identify inflammatory disease mechanisms involving
    the biosynthesis of lipid mediators in eosinophils, mast cells and epithelial
    cells, to describe sub-phenotypes of asthma.
    As assistant professor my research experience originates from studies on
    polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3/6 PUFAs) metabolism, such as
    eicosanoids, and their role in multiple inflammatory diseases. My 19-year
    background in chromatography and mass spectrometry-based techniques, together
    with more than a decade of working in pharmaceutical industry with drug
    development, has lend me a broad scientific expertise with an international
    network of co-workers. I believe that my passion for joint collaborative
    team-work with clinicians, business developers and experimental scientists
    has been the success to my scientific achievments.


  • I use my bioanalytical experience to study inflammatory driving processes in
    asthma, (lipid mediators such as prostaglandin, leukotriene and related fatty
    acids), and key inflammatory plasma proteins in both asthma, rheumatoid
    arthritis and systemic sclerosis. Central to my findings is the involvement
    of key effector cells, such as mast cells and eosinophils, as drivers of
    inflammatory events. From my metabolomics background my research has focused
    on targeted LC-MS/MS analysis of urine eicosanoid excretion patterns and how
    we can use eicosanoid profiles in urine from asthmatics to subgroup patients
    in a new way - solely based on the molecular pattern in urine. This research
    is currently ongoing, with the ultimate goal to contextualize these molecular
    subgroups in light of known and unknown clinical subtypes of asthmatics and
    to build predictive models that can aid clinical decisions regarding
    personalized treatment. Furthermore, I am excited about evaluating newly
    collected results from both in-vivo, ex-vivo and in vitro studies to progress
    new drug compounds in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, across the
    range from early drug discovery through-out clinical development. I am active
    member in the IMI funded U-BIOPRED Alliance project and contribute also to
    the following academic research initiatives
    BioCross and Breath.


  • Acting as supervisor for post docs and research technicians
    Currently co-supervising one PhD student.
