Vi bedriver translationell forskning med syfte att utveckla nya behandlingar vid vanliga synhotande näthinnesjukdomar
Forskningsbeskrivning
Vi bedriver experimentella och kliniska studier på ögats näthinna med syfte att utveckla nya behandlingar vid vanliga synhotande näthinnesjukdomar med fokus på ålders-relaterad makuladegeneration och ärftlig närhinnedegeneration. Projekten inkluderar molekylära och cellbiologiska studier, och prekliniska modeller för translationell utveckling av gen- och cellterapier med syfte att återställa förlorad syn. Vi leder en klinisk "first-in-human" genterapi studie på Bothniadystrofi. I ett samarbetsprojekt använder vi differentierade embryonala stamceller för att ersätta döda näthinneceller vid näthinnedegeneration där en klinisk "first-in-human" studie nu projekteras.
