KI Lifestyle4Health: Best paper award for junior researchers - Open now!

The KI Lifestyle4Health “Best paper award 2025” aims to reward scientists in early stages of their career for outstanding work.

Eligibility/Application criteria

• Bachelor, Master and PhD students active or having finished studies at Karolinska Institutet can apply for the award as first author of a scientific publication.
• The publication shall address the modifiable lifestyle factors, non-communicable diseases management or prevention and related topics within the theme lifestyle.
• Submitted papers must be published within the last three years in a peer-reviewed journal or recently been accepted for publication.
• Only original papers with first authorship (including shared first author) by the applicant will be accepted.
• The paper must have been published on January 1st, 2022 or later.
• The publication must have been submitted under the author's KI affiliation.

Application procedure

The application deadline is February 28th 2025.

Nominations need to include the following documents:

• The scientific paper for the award.
• A brief letter of application/nomination signed by the first author and a supervisor or senior co-author on the paper. 
• A popular science article (2500 characters including spaces) and the publication abstract describing the content of the paper (the winning article will be published on the KI Lifestyle4Health website)
• Documentation proofing the applicant's affiliation to Karolinska Institutet.

Selection criteria

A committee of four well-established academics, from both KI and other Swedish universities, will select the winner based on the following criteria:

Research quality

Scientific writing and thoroughness of documentation represent a main pillar of the selection process. The use of adequate methods, coherence and knowledge in the particular scientific field that the paper addresses will be evaluated.

Potential impact

Paper presenting medically relevant research will be rewarded. The degree to which the work contributes to promote health will be considered.

Novelty and creativity

The committee will pay special attention to novel and creative ideas or results to expand the current body of knowledge.

Award

The prize is 30 000 SEK. The winner/s will be announced on the KI Lifestyle4Health network’s website and will be asked to present the work in the network seminar series. The announcement will be made on May 30th, 2025.
