About me

  • I hold an assistant professorship and I am the head of Unit 2 at the Division of Nursing at NVS. I became a registered nurse in 1990 and earned my PhD in 2016 from Linköping University with the dissertation "Thirst in patients with heart failure - Description of thirst dimensions and associated factors with thirst."

Research

  • My research focuses on alleviating distressing symptoms such as thirst and improving the care of patients with heart failure and patients in palliative care.

    • Thirst Distress Scale - versions and further development.
    • Description of thirst distress in patients with heart failure - international collaboration.
    • Thirst in patients in palliative care - experiences of patients, relatives, and healthcare staff.
    • Symptom management, nutrition, and physical activity for older, frail persons with heart failure - a pilot study.
    • Doctoral project: Fluid intake in patients with heart failure (doctoral student Linn Höög). 
    • Doctoral project: Fatigue in patients with heart failure (doctoral student Hilda Melander).

Teaching

  • I teach in a course on current nursing/caring science at an advanced level and I co-supervise two doctoral students. I have worked as a teacher in several courses in Bachelor´s and Master´s levels. I have mainly served as course leader, teacher, and examiner in the first course of the nursing program on research methodology, the nursing profession, and nursing/caring science. I have also been program manager of the Specialist Nursing Program in Medical Care and course leader for one of the courses in the program. Additionally, I have supervised students in degree project in nursing at both Bachelor´s and Master´s levels.
