Research on visual function and neurovisual symptoms following brain injury and post-COVID conditions, focusing on diagnosis, oculomotor function, binocular vision, and rehabilitation.
About me
I am an Associate Professor and Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet and a licensed optometrist. My teaching activities include the education of medical students, ophthalmic nurses, and optometrists. I conduct research in close collaboration with rehabilitation medicine clinics in Stockholm, Linköping, and Helsinki, focusing on how visual function is affected by neurological disease and injury.
Since completing my PhD in 2015, my work has focused on advancing the understanding of neurovisual symptoms and developing methods to identify, assess, and rehabilitate vision-related impairments. Through research and clinical collaboration, I aim to increase awareness of the importance of vision within neurology and rehabilitation medicine.
Research
My research focuses on visual function and neurovisual symptoms in individuals with acquired brain injury, persistent post-COVID conditions, and other neurological disorders. Particular areas of interest include oculomotor function, binocular vision, reading performance, visual comfort, and the impact of vision-related symptoms on activity, participation, and quality of life.
My research encompasses the development and evaluation of clinical assessment methods, patient-reported outcome measures, and rehabilitation interventions. Projects combine traditional visual examinations with advanced techniques such as eye movement analysis to investigate the relationship between visual function, cognition, and neurological recovery.
Current research areas include:
- Neurovisual consequences of acquired brain injury.
- Visual dysfunction and rehabilitation in post-COVID conditions.
- Binocular vision and oculomotor dysfunction.
- Vision rehabilitation and vision therapy.
- Eye movement analysis and eye tracking in clinical assessment and rehabilitation.
- Development and validation of clinical instruments for assessing vision-related symptoms and visual function.
The overall aim of my research is to improve the detection, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of vision-related impairments in individuals with neurological disease or injury.
