About the Division of Clinical Geriatrics
Head of division professor Eric Westman
At the Division of Clinical Geriatrics, we conduct research and education. The research is multi-faceted and is in close collaboration with institutions and clinics worldwide. Our research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson's disease. The research is clinically oriented with an emphasis on diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
The focus is on research using different imaging methods, registry studies, lifestyle factors, prevention- and treatment studies. We also have research on drugs and the elderly, clinical nutrition, stroke and stroke rehabilitation. Within the division, we also conduct preclinical research.
We have a close collaboration with Theme Ageing and the cognitive units at Karolinska University Hospital. The activities are multidisciplinary and include medical research and research in the other specialties, such as psychology, occupational therapy and speech therapy etc.
