*Deaths with determined intent correspond to ICD diagnoses X60-X84/E950-E959. Deaths with undetermined intent correspond to ICD diagnoses Y10-Y34/E980-E989.

Methods

Suicide methods in Sweden (deaths with determined and undetermined intent) among men and women, 2010-2024

ICD-10: X60-X69/Y10-Y19 (poisoning), X70/Y20 (hanging), X71/Y21 (drowning), X72-X74/Y22-Y24 (gunshot), X78/Y28 (sharp object), X80/Y30 (jumping), X81/Y31 (moving object), och X75-77, X79, X82-84/Y25-27, Y29, Y32-34 (other).

Data source

The statistics were gathered from the National Board of Health and Welfare's cause of death data online [2026-09-08] and have been processed by NASP.

Statistics for the years before 2024 (i.e. 2024 and earlier) have been adjusted retroactively by the National Board of Health and Welfare, and may therefore deviate somewhat from statistics reported before 2026-09-08.
