Working group for teaching at medical program
GPH has together with CES (Centre for epidemiology and community medicine) a working group for staff involved in teaching in the new medical program at KI.
The new medical program is 6 years instead of 5.5 years and leads directly to a medical license. In the national program curriculum, there is an increased focus on societal and ethical issues, including global perspective, compared to the previous 5.5-year curriculum and the Department of Global Public Health is involved in teaching throughout the program. Some examples of our teaching activities so far:
- An introduction to local and global health, as well as to what a health system is during the first week of the first course, Basic Science 1. A Team-Based Learning (TBL) activity is part of this module (1st year). Kyriaki Kosidou.
- An individual project in Global health, with a focus on a pathogen, its epidemiology and preventive measures from a public health perspective during the course Basic Science 6 (2nd year). Helena Nordenstedt.
- One day focusing on lifestyle habits locally and globally including a seminar on “Global health in Sweden” during the course Clinical Medicine 1 (3rd year). Helena Nordenstedt.
- Global child health is taught in the 10th semester, where students try to figure out what makes a child sick, using the health determinants framework. Tobias Alfvén.
To harmonize teaching, ensure progression and share what is going on in different courses during the program, the working group meets once or twice per semester.
