About me

  • I am a postdoctoral researcher in Global Child Health at the Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institutet, and a resident physician in paediatrics at Karolinska University Hospital. My research focuses on reducing preventable child mortality and improving child health through health-system strengthening and better access to high-quality care.

My PhD focused on child health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where I lived and worked for five years. My research there included childhood mortality and health inequalities, health-system performance, and infectious diseases such as cholera. During this time, I established collaborations with the National Cholera Programme, UNICEF and Congolese research institutions.

I currently co-coordinate the research and PhD collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia, focusing on emergency and critical care. My broader research interests include global child health, health-system strengthening, essential emergency and critical care, medical oxygen, infectious diseases, and paediatric diagnostics, including the use of AI and digital technologies.

I have contributed to several international projects and consultancies, including the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health, the AIRR project on childhood pneumonia diagnostics, the International Science Council COVID-19 Scenarios project, and the Oxygen CoLab initiative.

I teach global and public health at medical and master’s level. I have supervised master’s students and currently supervise four PhD students and a medical student. I also serve as Chair of the Global Child Health section of the Swedish Paediatric Society and hold a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (DTM&H) from the Royal College of Physicians (UK).
