Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Tuberculosis Screening in Viet Nam | Social medicine, infectious diseases and migration (SIM)

Studies have shown that a multiple artificial intelligence (AI) software solutions perform on par or significantly better than experienced radiologists, and the World Health Organization now recommends their use in TB screening programs. However, the scientific literature on AI software for TB screening is primarily focused on diagnostic accuracy studies and their use as a radiologist replacement.

This project will evaluate novel AI software use cases (e.g. triage of normal CXR images, external quality assessment of human readers, processing of photograph of printed CXR films, etc.) during programmatic TB case finding in Viet Nam.

This work is being embedded within Friends for International TB Relief’s community-based TB case finding and is being generously supported by CDC Foundation, UNOPS through the Stop TB Partnership and USAID.
