KI Student-Alumni Mentorship Programme
Being a mentor is an opportunity to make a difference. In KI’s mentoring programme, you will meet a student who is curious about your experiences from working life or research. Together, you will reflect on career paths and professional development.
Why participate as a mentor?
- Share your experiences from working life or research
- Support a student in their reflections on future career paths
- Contribute to students’ understanding of the labour market
- Develop your own skills in communication and reflection
- Expand your professional network
- Maintain and strengthen your connection to KI

How the mentorship programme works
In the KI mentorship programme, you are matched with a student at KI. The matching is based on the information provided in your application.
Four meetings over seven months
The programme runs for seven months, from October to April. During this period, you and your mentee are expected to meet on at least four occasions. The format is flexible and decided together. Meetings can take place digitally, on campus, or elsewhere.
Kick-off event in October
The programme begins with a joint introductory meeting in October, where you will meet your mentee for the first time. During the meeting, you will receive shared support, clear expectations, and a framework for how to approach the mentorship.
Closing event in April
The programme concludes with a joint closing event in April.
Digital certificate
After completing the programme, you will receive a digital certificate as proof of your participation, which you can, for example, display on LinkedIn.
Application
You should be an alum with at least three years of professional or research experience. Your role involves being a conversation partner who reflects and contributes with your experience. As a mentor, you are expected to:
- Participate in the welcome dinner in October and the closing event in April.
- Meet your mentee at least four times.
- Be prepared, active, and curious throughout the entire mentorship program.
During the 2026/2027 program period, a total of 20 mentor–mentee pairs will be matched. Since the number of places is limited, it may happen that not everyone is assigned a mentee. You will be informed whether you have been matched with a mentee at the turn of August/September.
Questions and answers
The mentorship is about dialogue, reflection, and the exchange of experience. As a mentor, you serve as a conversation partner, a role model, a bearer of experience, and a support in reflection. However, as the mentor, you are not a therapist, academic advisor, teacher/examiner, or responsible for the mentee’s decisions regarding studies or career.
You meet at least four times over seven months, in addition to the introductory and closing sessions. You schedule the meeting times yourselves and decide whether to meet digitally, on campus, or at another location.
The program begins with an introductory session where you and your mentee are informed about the program’s framework and expectations, as well as suggested ways of working together. The program coordinators are available for questions and guidance throughout the entire mentorship.
During the 2026–2027 programme period, a total of 20 mentor pairs will be matched.
