Cancer Research KI Interactive Summer School

Cancer Research KI (former StratCan) Interactive Summer School in Cancer is an international summer school arranged annually. The aim is to create a truly interactive atmosphere and an active exchange of knowledge, experiences, and ideas between students, lecturers, and organizers.

The program contains organized lectures and discussions, as well as plenty of opportunities for informal exchange and discussions.
The summer school is intended for Ph.D. students and post-doctoral fellows. The number of participants is limited to around 30-40 to ensure a truly interactive format and a small registration fee has been collected.

2019 Precision Medicine

The StratCan Summer School 2019 in Precision Medicine was organised by Päivi Östling & Olli Kallioniemi with the research group, KI Department of Oncology-Pathology & SciLifeLab. The Summer School in Precision Medicine was held June 10-12, 2019 at Skytteholm conference center, Ekerö, Stockholm archipelago.

2017 Cancer Genomics

The StratCan Summer School 2017 on Cancer Genomics was organised by the Jussi Taipale Lab and took place June 13-16, 2017 at Sånga-Säby in the Stockholm archipelago.

2016 Cancer Cell Niche

The StratCan Summer School on "Cancer Cell Niche" was organized by Hong Qian and Julian Walfridsson from the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) at Karolinska Institute, held June 14-17, 2016 at Conference Hotel Yasuragi in the Stockholm archipelago.

2015 DNA repair in Cancer

The StratCan Summer School on "Targeting DNA repair in Cancer" was organized by Thomas Helleday & Oscar Fernandez-Capetillo and took place June 22-25, 2015 at Vår Gård Saltsjöbaden in the Stockholm Archipelago.

2014 Systems Biology

The StratCan Summer School on "Computation and Systems Biology to Further the Understanding of Cancer" was organized by Andrey Alexeyenko and Ingemar Ernberg and took place August 30 - September 1, 2014, at Vår Gård Saltsjöbaden in the Stockholm Archipelago.

2013 Cancer Therapies

StratCan Interactive Summer School in Cancer 2013 was held on June 10-14 at Sandhamn Seglarhotel in the Stockholm archipelago. This Summer School on "Targeted Cancer Therapies" was organized by Galina Selivanova and Giovanna Zinzalla.

2012 Tumor Immunology

StratCan Interactive Summer School in Cancer 2012 was held in June 25-27 at Rastaborg, Linanäs in the Stockholm archipelago. This Summer School on "Tumor Immunology" was organized by Andreas Lundqvist, Rolf Kiessling, and Klas Kärre.

2011 Metastasis

The first StratCan Interactive Summer School in Cancer was held in June 2011 at Balingsholm, Stockholm on the topic metastasis. This Summer School on "Metastasis" was organized by Staffan Strömblad, Jonas Bergh, Christer Betsholtz, Dan Grander, Catharina Larsson, Arne Östman.

The 1st StratCan Interactive Summer School contained five distinct themes, each covering half a day. For each theme, there was an overview lecture, a research presentation, and a discussion led by the invited speaker where the students actively contributed. There were also two poster sessions and all students presented a poster. The summer school ended with a panel discussion on timely issues within the research field.
