Per Wändell's research
I conduct research within the broad field of general practice, with a strong focus on the cardiometabolic area, including diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Research focus
General practice is a wide knowledge domain, and my research reflects this breadth. In ScholarGPS, research is ranked both overall and within specific fields, and according to this ranking, I am ranked number 2 in the world in the field of primary healthcare.
My doctoral thesis addressed diabetes, which remains a main focus, but in recent years, immigrant health has also become an important area of study.
Collaboration
- Professors Kristina and Jan Sundquist at the Center for Primary Care Research, Lund University, Malmö. Previous research has involved individuals with atrial fibrillation in primary care, but most studies have focused on treatment of diseases among first- or second-generation immigrants in Sweden.
- Toralph Ruge and Axel Carlsson, primarily on research in Skåne, mainly from emergency departments.
- Professor Johan Ärnlöv at the Division of Family Medicine and Primaray Care, on pain and risk of cardiovascular diseases.
- Gunnar Ljunggren and Axel Carlsson, on describing diagnoses in primary care.
- Participates in national collaboration within diabetes research (SPACE) with Olle Rolandsson (Umeå), Carl Johan Östgren (Linköping), Stefan Jansson (Örebro), and Louise Bennet (Malmö). A new extraction of research data is underway for the database at Örebro University, and several articles are expected in the coming years.
