Our research group conducts research in the field of neuroimmunology and epilepsy in children and young people. The research is translational and ranges from epidemiological studies via clinical cohort studies to preclinical studies via the many collaborations we have established nationally and internationally. This collaboration within Sweden and internationally is of the utmost importance and enables participation in international projects of various kinds.

The research group includes a large number of researchers, most of whom are also clinically active, with different professional backgrounds. It is a stated goal that the research should be cross-professional and also contain health science research as well as research on patient-perceived and patient-related outcome measures. See description of the various research areas under the "Project" tab.

Within the group there is a large number of doctoral students who are undergoing their research training and who, together with the senior researchers, form a good learning environment. We also participate in education at all levels and in various types of education and welcome students who want to do their degree projects with us.

Ongoing projects

Our overall research area is Neuroimmunology and Epilepsy in children and young people, but within the group there are also other, related projects in clinical neuropediatrics. The research is translational, i.e. includes both clinical studies on patients, drug trials and more laboratory-based studies of pathophysiological mechanisms. The majority of our projects take place in collaboration with various partners both within Sweden and internationally, and we actively participate in several international consortia within our areas.

  • Seizures in the neonatal period
  • AI to identify therapy-resistant epilepsy
  • AI to detect epilepsy via motion detection
  • Children's experiences of EP surgical investigation
  • Phenotyping of genetic epilepsies
  • Non-seizure problems in DEE
  • NORSE/FIRES
  • EpiGUT – Microbiota in epilepsy
  • The role of the microbiota in KD treatment
  • Autoimmune encephalitis in children
  • MS in children
  • Psychological effects of viral encephalitis in children
  • Acquired brain injuries in children
