Contribute to significant new discoveries
Karolinska Institutet has made a number of discoveries that have changed the world. Of the eight Swedes who have so far received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, five come from Karolinska Institutet. In dentistry, by far the most important discovery at KI is that made by Yngve Eriksson in the 1960s about the great importance of fluoridation for dental health. This pioneering work reduced tooth decay in children and young people. In recent years, researchers at KI have also discovered that peripheral glial cells (a type of nerve cell) can be recruited as stem cells for both odontoblasts and pulp cells and thus participate in tooth development and regeneration of tooth tissue.

Working together locally and globally
Universitetstandvården works closely with the Department of Dental Medicine, where theoretical education and dental research is conducted. Many of us who are employed at the university dental service also work to some extent at the department. Furthermore, university dentistry also collaborates regionally and nationally.

Health is important to us, of course
We want to promote the health of our employees. Therefore, all employees are offered, among other things, a wellness hour, wellness allowance and free training at the adjacent gym Base. KI also organizes various health-promoting events, which all employees have the opportunity to participate in.
