About me

  • I am an Assistant Senior Lecturer at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) at Karolinska Institutet. I hold a Master of Science in Electronic Engineering (2000) and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering (2004), both from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. My journey into the fields of Medical Informatics and e-Health began in 2001.

Research

  • My research primarily focuses on Health Informatics, currently on medical terminologies and health IT standards for harmonization of health data exchange. My aim is to emphasize the importance of standardization in ensuring interoperability and improving the quality of healthcare systems. I have investigated strategies for identifying trustworthy medical apps, helping users select reliable tools for health management.

Recently, my international research has highlighted the importance of addressing human factors in cybersecurity within healthcare organizations, emphasizing the need for formal training and educational standards to mitigate cyber risks. I have worked on enhancing medical lexicons for consumer and patient use, making medical information more accessible.

My previous research included the management of large medical image archives, consumer health informatics, and the development of models for personal and family health record systems. The findings of my research contribute to advancing Health Informatics by improving the management of medical data, enhancing patient engagement, and ensuring the security of health information systems.
