About me

  • I am a PhD and physical therapist with a research focus on exercise as treatment in chronic disease. My doctoral thesis, completed in 2025, was titled “Physical activity, intensive exercise, and mechanisms for muscle impairment in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies.” It explored high-intensity interval training in recent-onset myositis, the effects of patient serum on muscle force production, and the link between self-reported physical activity and mood disorders. Building on this work, I want to continue to investigate how exercise influences muscle physiology and patient function, aiming to understand both the clinical benefits and the underlying mechanisms. In the future, my goal is to translate these insights into evidence-based exercise interventions that improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Research

  • I’m interested in how exercise can be used as a treatment to improve health and quality of life. My research focuses not only on the benefits for patients but also on understanding the underlying mechanisms that make exercise effective. I want to explore further how physical activity impacts muscle tissue and overall function on a physiological level. By connecting clinical outcomes with biological processes, I aim to clarify how exercise works and why it matters. Ultimately, I want to provide evidence that supports exercise as a powerful tool in patient care.

Teaching

  • I have experience in teaching and supervision within physical therapy and rheumatology. I have supervised three bachelor theses and a summer research student, as well as guided students during clinical practice. In addition, I regularly present to medical students, with approximately six teaching sessions per semester. I have also delivered lectures, focusing on myositis, at national and specialist-level courses, including National Specialist Training Days in Rheumatology (Nationella ST-dagarna inom reumatologi) and the Specialist Course on Systemic Inflammation (SK-kurs systemisk inflammation). My teaching combines clinical expertise with research insights to support evidence-based practice.
