About me

  • I have been active in the midwifery education programme since 2005, with extensive experience as a lecturer, course leader, and examiner in both programme-based and independent or commissioned courses. I am currently course leader for the Reproductive and Perinatal Health course, where I develop pedagogy using peer learning to enhance students’ active learning, reflection, and clinical reasoning. I supervise master’s theses, several of which have resulted in scientific publications.

My research focuses on sexual, reproductive, and perinatal health, emphasizing equitable care, psychosocial support, and health-promoting interventions for parents. It includes studies of group antenatal care, women’s health across the life course (menstrual health, menopause), and the prevention of mental ill-health among new parents, particularly addressing fathers’ support needs.

I actively engage with civil society, including organisations such as Mamma till mamma and KSAN, to increase access to support and knowledge for parents.

I currently serve as Director of Undergraduate and Advanced Education (GUA) at KBH, responsible for planning, quality assurance, and strategic development of both undergraduate and advanced education, including integration of research.

Research

  • My research focuses on sexual, reproductive, and perinatal health, with particular emphasis on equitable care, psychosocial support, and health-promoting interventions for parents. My doctoral thesis, which combined qualitative and quantitative methods, explored parents’ and midwives’ experiences of group antenatal care. Since then, I have further developed this line of research, including studies on group antenatal care for Somali women, with the aim of increasing accessibility, participation, and quality of care within maternity services.

A complementary research strand concerns women’s living conditions and health across different life stages. Ongoing projects include menstrual health among women who have undergone female genital mutilation, in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Sweden, as well as studies on women’s experiences of menopause. This research aims to strengthen the evidence base for person-centred and culturally sensitive care.

A second major research area is the prevention of mental ill-health among new parents, with particular focus on fathers’ support needs. I lead research on support interventions for fathers, including telephone peer support for fathers, where we examine the potential of peer support to prevent mental ill-health and promote parent–infant bonding. I am also involved in a three-year collaborative project with the organization MÄN focusing on support for fathers in situations of separation.

My research is characterised by interdisciplinary approaches, mixed methods, and close collaboration with healthcare services and public authorities, with the overall aim of contributing to evidence-based, equitable, and clinically relevant development of maternity and parental health care.

Teaching

  • I have been active in the midwifery education programme since 2005 and have, over this period, developed extensive and multifaceted pedagogical expertise, with responsibilities as a lecturer, course leader, and examiner within both the programme and independent or commissioned courses. My teaching and assessment have encompassed several core components of the programme, providing me with an in-depth understanding of the curriculum’s progression, learning outcomes, and professional preparation. I am currently course leader for the Reproductive and Perinatal Health course, where I work to further develop the pedagogical structure, including the implementation of peer learning as a means to enhance students’ active learning, critical reflection, and clinical reasoning.

I supervise master’s theses within the field, several of which have resulted in scientific publications, reflecting a research-informed approach to supervision and a consistent focus on academic quality and knowledge development.

I currently hold the position of Director of Undergraduate and Advanced Education (GUA) at KBH, with overarching responsibility for the planning, coordination, and quality assurance of education at both undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as for the strategic development of curricula, pedagogy, and research integration.
