Heart and Lung Diseases Unit
The unit's vision is to contribute to improved care in heart and lung diseases. To achieve this, we work with scientific evaluation and development of current diagnosis and treatment, and also with development of new mechanistic knowledge, diagnosis and treatment.
Within cardiology we conduct patient-oriented research and translational research.
The patient-oriented research focuses on improved instruments for the diagnosis and prognosis of ischemic heart disease and heart failure. This includes evaluation of established and new circulating markers of diagnostic imaging and measurement of cardiac function such as ultrasound/ Doppler measurements, scintigraphy and MRI. New methods and algorithms in image diagnostics are evaluated.
Electrophysiological examination and treatment (ablation) are also evaluated in terms of mechanisms of heart rhythm and different types of arrhythmia. Within the translational sector we study the possibilities of regenerative cardiology.
Within Lung diseases we conduct research on asthma and allergic diseases.
A human research programme to improve phenotyping of asthma and other mast cell mediated disorders. The goal is to develop diagnostic biomarkers and define new treatment strategies for different phenotypes of asthma and allied disorders.
