Half-time review at CLINTEC
When a doctoral student has used half of the time available for their doctoral education, it is time for the half-time review. This event is both a learning opportunity and a tool for highlighting the doctoral student’s progress. This page is a starting point for you as a doctoral student at CLINTEC, helping you prepare in accordance with both local and central routines.
Criteria and preparations
The doctoral student must have completed half of their doctoral education, corresponding to 400 per cent reported research activity, and must have completed the courses that are mandatory for the half-time review. In the general syllabus for your year of admission, you can read which courses are mandatory for you.
Start by reading the information on this page and on the half-time review page. Inform the head of division and the division administrator of the intended date for the half-time review.
Karolinska Institutet recommends that the doctoral student and principal supervisor begin preparing the application two months before the date of the half-time review. Most of the work involved in the application consists of writing the half-time report. See further information under application for half-time review.
Application for half-time review
The application, with all appendices, must be sent as one or more PDF files to doctoral education at CLINTEC no later than five weeks before the date of the half-time review. The application must be signed by the doctoral student and the principal supervisor. The approved application, signed by the director of doctoral studies, will be emailed to the doctoral student, the principal supervisor and the unit administrator.
We do not accept applications in paper form. If the application has been signed by hand, a scanned copy must be emailed and the original paper copy sent by post. Contact doctoral education at CLINTEC for the address.
The complete application must include the following:
- Form 5, Half-time review (application and minutes), with part 1 completed.
- The half-time report written using Karolinska Institutet’s template.
- A copy of the latest version of the research plan.
- A copy of all ethical approvals, decisions only (not the application).
- Any publications and manuscripts to be included in the thesis.
- A copy of the most recently confirmed individual study plan.
- Registration certificate from Ladok.
After the half-time review
After the half-time review has been completed, the half-time review minutes, signed by a representative of the half-time review committee, must be sent as a PDF file to doctoral education at CLINTEC. Once the minutes have been signed by the director of doctoral studies and registered, they will be sent back to the doctoral student to be uploaded to the individual study plan, which can then be confirmed.
