Recap from the 20th Cancer Research Retreat
On the 25-26th of September 2023, Cancer researchers KI has organized the annual Cancer Research retreat. The retreat hosted 260 participants including KI students, post-docs, clinical fellows, and supervisors with an interest in cancer research across KI.
The 2-day event included presentations from established keynote speakers: Dr. Matthew Goetz, Mayo Clinic; Dr. María A. Blasco, Spanish National Cancer Research Centre; and Dr. Juha Klefström, University of Helsinki. Along with invited oral presenters from KI who shared their findings and exciting research projects in cancer biology, clinical cancer research, cancer care research and cancer epidemiology.
The program included a lively poster pitching session where students and junior researchers presented their posters in just 45 seconds in the most creative way such as poems, illustrations and images. Followed by a vibrant poster sessionwith 90 posters exhibited by students, researchers and core-facilities. Additionally, several break-out sessions were organized covering topics such as spatial transcriptomics, industrial collaborations, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cancer research and an opportunity to meet one of the keynote speakers.
This year marked a milestone, and we celebrated our 20- year anniversary of the annual Cancer retreat. The celebration included a memorable message from Ingemar Ernberg and fun dinner with a special song written by Johanna Ungersted and performed by Olof Akre and all participants. The annual Cancer Research meeting has its roots in prior meetings and activities organized by the former KI Cancer and StratCan networks and is currently continued by Cancer Research KI, with an aim to bring and celebrate the Cancer Research community together.
The next Cancer Research KI retreat is planned on 23-24th of September 2024.
Finally, we would like to thank all the researchers for participating and we are looking forward for future milestones together.
