About KI Housing

Our mission is to offer international researchers and students a first place to stay during their first time of research and study at Karolinska Institutet. KI Housing does not own any of the housing areas or buildings but contracts are always signed between KI Housing and the student/guest researcher.

History

The company was founded in 1994 by Stiftelsen Vetenskapsstaden (The Science City Foundation) under the name Vetenskapsstaden International Center (VIC). The main purpose for VIC was to offer accommodation to foreign guest researchers and students at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University, the Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm School of Economics.

Karolinska Institutet Holding acquired Vetenskapsstaden International Center in early 2004 and the name changed to University Accommodation Center.

Between 2012 and 2022, we were Karolinska Institutet Housing AB (KI Housing), owned by Karolinska Institutet Holding AB.

Since the 1st of January 2023, we are a part of Karolinska Institutet and our mission is to help international researchers and students to find suitable accommodation during their first time of research and study at Karolinska Institutet.

In the beginning, VIC administered 100 apartments and today KI Housing provides 626 rooms and apartments in several areas of Stockholm.

In over 10 years, we had an ambition to create a new, attractive and vibrant Residence for international students and researchers.

In August 2021, we opened the doors to our brand new accommodation center KI Residence Solna right on campus in Solna! KI Residence Solna provides 408 rooms and apartments of different sizes and several common areas for our tenants to gather for spontaneous meetings and get-togethers.

During this 20-year period we have had more than 10 000 students and guest researchers staying with us and we count people from over 100 countries among our former and present tenants.

It is, and has always been, our goal to give a warm welcome to our guests, and to provide good service throughout a tenant’s stay!
