What we do
The Office provides strategic and operational support in research, education, infrastructure, internationalisation, collaboration, and sustainability. It facilitates research financing, corporate alliances, ethics, clinical studies, data management, and compliance with EU and NIH regulations. The office also manages the Research Data Office, oversees the Stockholm Trio office in Brussels, and coordinates award nominations.
The office consists of 6 units.
Grants Office, GO
- Monitoring of national and international research and innovation policy - focus on external research funding
- Support and advice in the application phase - external research funding (national and international)
- Assignment to support and coordinate a KI-wide way in the management of EU projects
- Management of EU projects coordinated by KI with a focus on regulatory compliance and financial reporting
Compliance and Data Office, CDO

External Engagement Office, EEO
- Long-term partnerships with industry
- Support for managing collaborative research, contracts and intellectual property rights
- Career Service for PhD students, postdocs and researchers
- Impact: mentorship programmes, inspirational activities and support to help researchers achieve impact
- EIT Health - operational and strategic initiatives for new projects in education, innovation and business development
International Relations Office
- Involved in strategic issues, project management, contract management and information regarding internationalisation
- Coordinates international visits and events at management level
- Coordinates support for exchange studies to the study programmes
- Coordinates the Internationalisation Board
- Coordinates externally funded mobility programmes (e.g. Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus programme), investigations and evaluations
- Operates principally on behalf of the management of KI, the Faculty board with its 3 committees, and the study programme committees
Faculty Office Research
- Administrative support to the President, Faculty Board, Committees, and Infrastructure Board
- Analysis, assessments, inquiries, and development of the quality system
- Support for the development of Open Science, research infrastructure and Data-Driven Science
- Advancement of strategic research areas and clinical research
- Support for research schools and the assessment of research centers and networks
Development Office, DO
We work with donations to Karolinska Institutet's research and education. At the Development Office, we match the commitment and interests of private donors and philanthropists with our research projects, so that our research areas receive the best support.
