HumanLab - Human Translational Physiological Core Facility
HumanLab aims to be a world leading KI platform for comprehensive studies of the human HumanLab is a new facility at Karolinska Institutet in Bioclinicum, Solna, bringing together research, education and clinical innovation to enable advanced studies of the human body.
Construction is underway, and HumanLab will open early 2027.
Opening Q1 2027
HumanLab will open in Q1 2027, creating a new shared environment for human research, collaboration and translation at KI.

HumanLab – A Shared Platform for Research
HumanLab brings together researchers, students and external partners in a shared environment for advanced human research. Located in close proximity to the hospital, HumanLab creates unique opportunities to connect basic and experimental research with clinical expertise, patient-oriented research and healthcare needs.
The platform provides shared infrastructure that supports research, education and collaboration across disciplines—from basic and clinical research to partnerships with industry and public-sector organisations. By bringing researchers and clinicians together, HumanLab strengthens the translation of scientific discoveries into new methods, diagnostics and treatments, while enabling clinical questions and patient needs to inform future research.

HumanLab is about creating the conditions for collaboration. By bringing researchers, clinicians and external partners together around shared questions and shared infrastructure, we can strengthen the link between scientific discovery and patient benefit.
HumanLab–KI–K is built around a simple principle: shared questions, shared infrastructure and shared patient impact. Its purpose is to create an integrated environment where knowledge, technology and expertise can move more effectively between the laboratory, the clinic and society, ultimately accelerating innovation and contributing to better human health.

The department of Physiology and Pharmacology is now taking the next step in its strategic initiative. The department is announcing a position as Assistant Professor (BUL) in human physiology or medicine in extreme environments. In parallel, FyFa is also developing a unique lab for human research, which includes the possibility of patient-oriented studies, and which also strengthens the field of defence-related medicine.
