Dissemination and cultural adaptation of mental health self-management technology in the Russian Federation
This project supports the dissemination and cultural adaptation of the NEVERMIND self-management technology in Russia, combining digital healthcare and mental health support to help people manage depressive symptoms linked to serious physical illnesses.
During the past decade, Russia has introduced several national initiatives focused on mental health and public health. One long-term objective is to increase life expectancy to 80 years.
An ageing population can contribute positively to society, but it also increases demands on healthcare, social services, pension systems, and the economy. An important challenge is supporting mental health and helping older adults remain active in daily life. This includes areas such as financial wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, cognitive health, self-management, social participation, and volunteering.
One national strategy has been to combine international health-promotion approaches with digital and individualized healthcare solutions. This creates opportunities for the introduction of new digital technologies related to mental health and wellbeing in Russia.
These factors formed the basis for the application to participate in the Swedish Institute’s Third Country Cooperation programme in the Baltic Sea region.

The project aims to expand the dissemination of results from the ongoing EU project NEVERMIND and to support its cultural adaptation.
NEVERMIND
NEurobehavioural predictiVE and peRsonalised Modelling of depressive symptoms duriNg primary somatic Diseases with ICT-enabled self-management procedures (NEVERMIND) is a project funded through the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
The project uses technology to support people experiencing depressive symptoms linked to serious physical illnesses, including cancer. The approach places mental health at the centre of care through a mobile application and a lightweight sensor-equipped garment that collects information about physical and mental health and provides feedback to the user.
Based on the collected data, the system provides suggestions that may help users adjust habits and lifestyle factors associated with depressive symptoms.
A strategic objective of the NEVERMIND project is to increase awareness and use of this technology. The long-term goal is to make the technology available on the market so that people can access tools that support self-management of depressive symptoms and improve quality of life.
