About me

  • Combination employment (förenad anställning) as Professor and research group leader at Marianne Bernadotte Centrum, Karolinska Institutet and optometrist at the Neuro-ophthalmology department at St Erik Eye Hospital.

Research

  • The theme of my research is visual function and eye movement control. For the past 13 years, I have focused on how the visual system is affected by acquired brain injuries. In the projects listed below, the following is now happening:

    1) description of the eye movement response to head movements (vestibular) and image tilt (visual) in the visual field in healthy subjects and in patients with acquired brain injuries who suffer from visual hypersensitivity to movement in the visual field, so-called visual dizziness. The goal is to increase our understanding of the condition and find objective clinical measures to identify visual dizziness and distinguish it from other causes of dizziness.

    2) mapping of early and late eye and vision changes in acquired brain injuries or diseases of the brain. The focus of these projects is on binocular eye movement disorders and their connection to cognitive function disorders and balance disorders. We also study neuro-retinal and pupillomotor changes and investigate whether these can be used as early markers in diseases such as Parkinson's disease.

    3) description of color filter treatment for visual perceptual disorders in patients with acquired diseases and brain injuries. In the project, we use the so-called Intuitive Colorimeter and fit patients with customized filter solutions to evaluate subjective and objective changes with the treatment. The project takes place in collaboration with Cerium Technology, UK.

In addition to these projects described above, I am involved in several other projects with colleagues at St. Erik's Eye Hospital and Lund University.
