Sten Eirik Jacobsen

Sten Eirik Waelgaard Jacobsen, Professor of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, and the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, researches how bone marrow stem cells produce blood cells. His research involves exploring the mechanisms and regulation of healthy blood formation and the causes of diseases of the blood, such as leukaemia.

2024: Wallenberg Scholar 2024-2029, awarded by Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation

2019: Elected fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

2019: Elected fellow of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).

2015: Torsten Söderbergs Academy Professor in Medicine 2015, awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Torsten Söderbergs Academy.

2014: Tobias Prize, awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Tobias Foundation to a scientist in one of the nordic countries for outstanding scientific contributions of relevance for blood diseases and stem cell transplantations.

2005: Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences Göran Gustafsson’s Prize for most outstanding young investigator in Medicine in Sweden.

2003, 2004: Crafoord’s Prize for best PhD thesis at the Medical Faculty, Lund University, Sweden in 2003 (David Bryder) and 2004 (Lars Nilsson).

2000: Fernström Prize (Lund University) for outstanding young investigators.

1999-2001: Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research: Award/ Grant for “Outstanding young investigators”.

1994: Malthe Prize for best Norwegian PhD thesis in Internal Medicine 1992-93.
