Stefan Bencina

I am a PhD student mainly working on the mechanisms causing neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular emphasis on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis. I am investigating how microglia and macrophages contribute to disease progression and how we can modulate their behaviour to protect the central nervous system. My research aims to translate basic science into novel stem cell-based therapies, with a specific focus on the immunomodulatory capabilities of human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs).
