About me

  • I am a cardiologist with focus on coronary heart disease (CHD). I have been active in coronary care and percutaneous coronary interventions for 25 years at Karolinska University Hospital. I have a great interest in research and education in CHD. In 2012, I became a senior lecturer in Cardiology. Since 2014, I am active at the Department of Clinical Science and Education at Södersjukhuset in Stockholm. Södersjukhuset is one of the largest hospitals in Sweden with a potential to become a major player in Swedish and international research.

Research

  • My main focus of research today is Myocardial Infarction with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries (MINOCA), including Takotsubo syndrome. I am the PI of the Stockholm Myocardial Infarction with Normal Coronaries (SMINC) studies. The first two studies (SMINC 1 and 2) are published resulting in total in about 30 publications. The first study mainly descibes the new condition MINOCA, recently desctibed as a working diagnosis. The second study was focused on CMR diagnostics of MINOCA showing that 3/4 of all patients get a diagnosis by early CMR. A third study (SMINC 3) is on-going (preliminary end December 2025) and aim to show how many MINOCA-patients with a normal CMR have microvascular dysfunction by CMR. A fourth study (eSMINC) test the hypothesis that an internet-based cognitive behavioral theraoy can relieve anxiety and stress in patients with MINOCA and Takotsubo syndrome.
