About me

  • Group leader and researcher at the Institute of Environmental Medicine,
    Karolinska Institutet.
I am a biologist, who graduated with a major in animal physiology and
neurosciences. Later on my focus has shifted to the immune system, epithelial
barrier biology and the role of host-microbe interplay in the tuning of host
immune responses to external exposures and mechanisms underlying immune
tolerance and susceptibility to chronic inflammatory disease.
    MSc 1997 University of Helsinki
    PhD 1999 University of Helsinki
    Docent 2015 University of Helsinki

Research

  • My research team explores the impact of modern lifestyle on immune tolerance
and the risk of developing chronic inflammatory disease, such as allergies.
I lead a project which identifies biomarkers to discriminate between irritant
and allergic contact dermatitis for the purpose of developing improved
    diagnostics.

Teaching

  • I am yearly involved in teaching basic immunology, immune toxicology,
bacteriology and epithelial barrier biology at Karolinska Institutet and at
    the University of Helsinki.
