About me

  • Konstantinos is a neurologist at Karolinska University Hospital, specializing in the care of patients with neurodegenerative disorders. He earned his medical degree from the University of Patras in Greece (2011) and subsequently pursued a Ph.D. at Karolinska Institutet (2013-2017) with a focus on developing multimodal neuroimaging biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease at the Agneta Nordberg lab.

Completing his residency in neurology at Karolinska University Hospital (2018-2024) with a focus on Parkinsonian disorders, Konstantinos is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, working on multimodal neuroimaging under the guidance of Dr. Gil Rabinovici and Dr. Renaud La Joie.

Konstantinos was awarded highly competitive postdoctoral fellowships from the Swedish Society for Medical Research and the Stockholm County Council, allowing him to combine medical practice with research.

Research

  • His primary focus is on developing biomarkers for early detection and monitoring of pathological processes in dementia disorders. His work revolves around two key areas:

    1. Developing novel biomarkers for emerging targets in the cascade of neurodegenerative diseases. Recent projects include the development of novel tracers for positron emission tomography and biofluid markers for tracking astrocyte activation associated with neurodegeneration.

    2. Validating existing neuroimaging and biofluid biomarkers by combining multimodal information from comprehensive clinical and neuropsychological assessments and neuropathology. The overall aim is to develop roadmaps for incorporating these biomarkers appropriately into the clinical assessment of cognitive impairment.

Teaching

  • Konstantinos currently serves as the primary supervisor for 1 Ph.D. student and has previously mentored 3 research assistants or research fellows along with 1 MSc student. He is actively teaching neurology to undergraduate students and neuroimaging at a postgraduate level.
