About me

My research interest lies in obtaining a deeper understanding of the proteinopathies, which lead to neurodegeneration with the use of advanced neuroimaging techniques and fluid biomarkers. My research work so far has focussed on Alzheimer's disease and other causes of dementia. As a physician, I am particularly interested in the incorporation of validated biomarkers to clinical practice for the purpose of diagnosis at the early stages of the disease, as well as evaluation of therapeutic efficacy once disease-modifying treatments become available.

Research description

Imaging tau pathology in vivo in patients with Alzheimer's disease and other proteinopathies

  • Evaluation and comparison of the binding characteristics of different PET tracers in vivo in Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies.
  • Assessment of the association between tau pathology, amyloid-beta deposition, neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment in vivo.
  • Investigation of longitudinal changes in the binding load and pattern of a tau PET tracer.

Evaluation of the relationship between measures of amyloid-beta and tau pathologies with PET and cerebrospinal fluid in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Assessment of the clinical validity of amyloid-beta PET imaging in routine clinical patients with cognitive impairment.

Neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative diseases.

  • Evaluation of astrocyte activation in patients with sporadic and autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease.
  • Assessment of association between astrocyte activation and neurodegeneration in vivo.
