Jessika Barron Cuenca
About me
Research professor at the Institute of Genetics of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Bolivia. Affiliated to Research at Karolinska Institutet.
I have a master's degree in Public Health with a mention in Epidemiology and another in Genetics. I received my Ph.D. in Toxicology in 2020 in the laboratory of Prof. Kristian Dreij at the Institute of Environmental Medicine of the Karolinska Institutet. My research focused on studying genotoxic effects among Bolivian farmers exposed to pesticide mixtures, where I conducted both population and in vitro studies.
After my doctorate, I returned to my country where, together with the team from the Genetic Toxicology Unit of the Genetic Institute, I continued developing studies related to occupational exposure to pesticides, climate change, and health effects, and also studies related to adaptation of populations to consume water with high concentrations of arsenic.
