Jenny Castaings
About me
I am a PhD student at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet, with a research focus on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. My research aims to advance the understanding of myocardial injury and cardiovascular outcomes through the application of advanced imaging techniques, with particular emphasis on myocarditis, myocardial injury with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA), and myocardial tissue characterization.
I work clinically at the Division of Clinical Physiology mainly with CMR and echocardiography. I am the lead technologist responsible for CMR at our department. As an SCMR Level III Certified CMR Technologist, I combine clinical expertise with translational research. Through my work, I contribute to projects aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy, risk stratification, and long-term patient management using cardiovascular imaging biomarkers.
Research
My research interests include myocardial inflammation, fibrosis, late gadolinium enhancement, quantitative tissue characterization, and the prognostic significance of CMR findings in cardiovascular disease. I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between advanced imaging research and clinical implementation to support precision medicine and evidence-based patient care.
Teaching
In addition to my research activities, I am actively engaged in higher education and contribute to teaching within the Biomedical Science Programme at Karolinska Institutet. My educational involvement includes the supervision and teaching of students in cardiovascular physiology, cardiovascular imaging, lung physiology, ECG, and exercise physiology to train future healthcare professionals.
