About me

  • Leading a research team that focuses on tumor immunology specifically to understand the underlying mechanisms that regulate the pro-tumoral phenotype of immune cells denoted Tumor-Associated Macrophages (TAMs). By employing state-of-art mouse models, cutting edge molecular biology techniques and patient samples, we have deciphered several mechanisms whereby pro-tumoral TAM phenotypes are regulated. By targeting these controlled pathways, pro-tumoral TAMs can be reprogrammed into an anti-tumoral phenotype leading to activation of cytotoxic immune cells and hampering tumor growth and metastatic dissemination. We work closely to clinicians assuring a bench-to-bedside link. Topics that we address:
    i) Identifying novel targets that govern tumor-associated macrophage pro-tumoral functions by single-cell sequencing in, genome wide sequencing of total and ribosome- bound RNA, and proteomics.
ii) Identifying novel tumor microenvironment biomarkers in patient samples including TAM phenotypes and their spatial localization.
iii) Regulation of metastatic dissemination via the hematogenous route to secondary organs
