Carolin Nymark

I am a registered nurse and have been working with patients with cardiovascular diseases since 1997.

I obtained my PhD in 2015 and was appointed Associate Professor in 2023. In my academic role at the Karolinska Institutet, I primarily supervise doctoral students. I currently serve as the principal supervisor for two clinically active PhD students and as co-supervisor for three additional doctoral candidates. In addition, I supervise master's students in their thesis work.

I am employed at Karolinska University Hospital, Heart and Vascular Centre, where I have served as a University Nurse since 2018. In this role, I work across the areas of clinical care, research, and education, contributing to the integration and development of evidence-based practice within cardiovascular healthcare.

My primary research area is cardiovascular care. I am currently the principal investigator (PI) of two research projects: FLUID-HF, an RCT which investigates fluid intake in patients with heart failure, and Remote Monitoring in Patients with Pacemakers, which focuses outcomes of remote follow-up in cardiac rhythm management where a health economic evaluation will be conducted.

My research aims to improve patient outcomes, quality of care, and self-management through evidence-based interventions and innovative models of care for individuals living with cardiovascular disease.

I have extensive experience in nursing education and have served as a lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS), teaching within the nursing and specialist nursing programmes. In addition, I continue to supervise master's students in their thesis work.

I developed the course Thoracic Surgical Care and Nursing (7.5 ECTS), a commisioned education programme that har been delivered annually since 2022. As course coordination and examiner, I am responsible for curriculum development, course delivery, assessment, and ongoing quality improvement.
