Bergný Ármannsdóttir
About me
I am a PhD student in psychiatric epidemiology in the Mental Health and Social Integration (MENTE) research group, lead by Professor Ellenor Mittendorfer-Rutz at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Division of Insurance Medicine.
My doctoral research investigates labor market marginalization among individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Using comprehensive register-based data from various sources in Sweden, the study analyzes outcomes such as disability pension, long-term sickness absence, and long-term unemployment. Additionally, it explores the impact of factors like psychiatric and somatic comorbidity, socio-economic factors, and pharmacotherapy on labor market marginalization among individuals with a bipolar diagnosis in Sweden.
Before pursuing my PhD, I worked as a clinical psychologist at Landspitali University Hospital in Reykjavík, Iceland. In this role, I primarily supported patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder and provided assistance in acute psychiatric units for individuals experiencing severe suicidal ideations. I was also part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for training new staff and students in suicide risk assessment and interventions.
