Anoop Tholamplackil Ambikan

I am a Post-Doctoral Researcher and Senior Bioinformatician in the Systems Virology Laboratory, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. I hold a Ph.D. in Medical Science from Karolinska Institutet, with a specialization in systems biology applications in infectious disease research, completed under the supervision of Prof. Ujjwal Neogi. In my current role, I lead the design and execution of the bioinformatics strategy across the group's research projects, translating complex multi-omics data into biological insight.

My work sits at the intersection of network-based systems biology, multi-omics data integration, and AI-assisted computational methods, with a focus on uncovering the molecular complexity of infectious diseases. I apply these approaches to network construction and contextualization, omics data integration, and biomarker discovery, working across a broad range of data types including proteomics, metabolomics, metagenomics, and single-cell transcriptomics.

Before my doctoral training, I gained industry experience in de-novo and reference-based genomics and transcriptomics, working with both animal and plant datasets; a foundation that has broadly designed my computational and analytical approach.

My research interests span systems biology of viral diseases, metabolic network contextualization, and multi-omics data integration. I develop biology-informed AI and machine learning pipelines for disease endotyping and biomarker discovery. I am also interested in biomedical image and spatial omics analysis, and in building mechanistic computational models that represent biological systems across multiple physiological and pathological conditions.
