About me

  • I am a researcher at Karolinska Institutet with a focus on nephrology and translational research in chronic kidney disease. My research aims to identify molecular mechanisms and biomarkers by integrating multi-omics data with clinical cohorts, with the goal of developing precision medicine strategies. I received my PhD from Karolinska Institutet and have since continued my academic career in nephrology. I coordinate the KaroKidney research network and lead national and international collaborations, including projects in partnership with industry.

Research

  • My research focuses on chronic kidney disease, a common condition that affects many people and is often associated with serious complications such as cardiovascular disease. I study how molecular changes contribute to disease development and progression, with a particular focus on inflammation, vascular function, and tissue remodeling. The aim is to identify biomarkers that can enable earlier detection and better prediction of disease course.

In my research, I combine data from patient samples with advanced analytical methods, including genetic and so-called multi-omics techniques, to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of disease processes. I work closely with clinicians and other researchers to link laboratory findings to patient outcomes. In the long term, my research aims to contribute to more personalized care and improved treatment strategies for patients with kidney disease.

Teaching

  • I teach at multiple levels at Karolinska Institutet, with a particular focus on doctoral education, where I serve as course leader, examiner, and lecturer in courses including cellular signaling. I supervise PhD and master’s students and actively contribute to their scientific development and independence. In addition, I participate in seminars, workshops, and other educational activities, both within and beyond my department. My teaching is characterized by a student-centered approach, with an emphasis on critical thinking and the integration of basic research with clinical application.
