My current research focus is on examining pathways to agression in those with psychotic spectrum disorders. We examine 3 groups i) those sentenced to forensic psychiatric care with a diagnosis of psychotic spectrum disorder and prior history of aggression ii) those with psychotic disorders but no aggression and iii) helathy individuals.  The current study (SPRätt) combines in depth interviews regarding past adversities and symptoms with psychological and biological measures. We use emotion recognition and social cognition paradigms as well as working memory tasks simultaneously with brain fNIRS and tests of skin conductance and pulse to elicit differences in current functions. Additionally we are doing mass protein spectrometry analyses combined with assays of inflammatory markers. Future analyses will focus on oxidative stress and other relevant biological pathways integrating protein markers with genetics and epigenetics. Furthermore machine learning paradigms will be added to ascertain if risk profiles can be obtained that in the longer term allow clinicians to better predict risk and thereby develop risk reduction interventions.
